Saturday Class

 

Description- IPTS Standard 2 - Content Area and Pedagogical Knowledge - The competent teacher has in-depth understanding of content area knowledge that includes central concepts, methods of inquiry, structures of the disciplines, and content area literacy. The teachers creates meaningful learning experiences for each student based upon interactions among content area and pedagogical knowledge, and evidence-based practice.
IPTS Standard 8- Collaborative Relationships - The competent teacher builds and maintains collaborative relationships to foster cognitive, linguistic, physical, and social and emotional development. This teacher works as a team with professional colleagues, students, parents or guardians, and community members.

Saturday Class Week 1-3

Rationale- For the first 3 weeks of Saturday class we taught a lesson on ceramics with our main focus being games and identity. We had activities, demos, and discussion leading to our main project of creating a ceramic tic-tac-toe board game that reflected students ow personal interest.

Saturday Class (Week 4-5)

Rationale- For the last 2 weeks of 

Saturday class we thought a lesson on print-making with our main idea being nature and self-expression. We had activities, demos, and discussion leading to our final project of  a nature print t-shirt.

Classroom Setup-

Description- IPTS Standard 4 - Learning Environment - The competent teacher structures a safe and healthy learning environment that facilitates cultural and linguistic responsiveness, emotional well-being, self-efficacy, positive social interaction, mutual respect, active engagement, academic risk-taking, self-motivation, and personal goal setting. This includes a virtual environment and any learning aids used within a Google Drive.
7D: understands how to organize the instructional environment to maximize students’ learning.

 

Rationale- We always structured the classroom so the students were close to us while we were teaching and we always set up everything beforehand, such as big grown paper for the desks or tables, and any materials they were going to need for that day either at their work area or near by. We made posters that broke down the steps they were taking for the ceramic game boards as well as posters for their print-making stations that organized them and gave them helpful tips for each stations.

 PROFESSIONALISM, ADVOCACY & LEADERSHIP: PAL 1  (2 submissions)
IPTS Standard 9 - Professionalism, Leadership, and Advocacy - The competent teacher is an ethical and reflective practitioner who exhibits professionalism; provides leadership in the learning community; and advocates for students, parents or guardians, and the profession.

 

Description- I attended the IAEA conference this past October. 

 

Rationale- This gave me the opportunity to network with other art teachers, hear from other art educators about their experiences in education and explore different art material vendors.

Pal 1.2- 

Description- I visited an online art exhibition called "Faces of Humanity", Dale M Sumner, 2023.

 

Rationale- The viewing of this exhibition contributed to my artistic learning within the community.

Rationale- This gave me the experience to present my art lesson and ideas in front of other educators as well as talk about my experiences as someone who's preparing to student teach.
